Where there is pogoing there is happiness and where the Black Lips are there is bound to be pogoing. The bad kids of garage rock, fundamental players for an understanding of the genre in the first decade of the 2000s, are coming back to our stages, which they should never leave. This will be on Sunday 13th May in La de Apolo in Barcelona to present Satan’s Graffiti or God’s Art?, their eighth studio album, that came out on Vice Records in 2017.
All in all, and although it sounds clichéd, this is their most ambitious and daring record to date, on which their bad-boy garage blends with experimentation and classical blues. As they themselves have said, “For the first time we sound like we know what we are doing”. In part it is thanks to the production by Sean (son of) Lennon and the return of former guitarist Jack Hines, who has joined the founding duo Cole Alexander and Jared Swilley alongside the latest recruits Zumi Rosow (saxophonist) and Oakley Munson (drums). Together they have taken the almost twenty-year-old Atlanta band to new heights, crowned by a collaboration with Yoko Ono herself on the track Occidental Front.
On this tour, Black Lips will also play in Pamplona, San Sebastian and Madrid. Pogoing to be supplied by audience.
