The emperor of grime will conquer Madrid for the first time next month
Skepta doesn’t live in the fast lane anymore.
As a pioneer, he could lead the latest wave of British grime
but instead he watches it from afar.
He has been in the business for years, has reinvented himself several times and has absolutely
N-O-T-H-I-N-G- to prove.
His first LP, in 2007, was already called Greatest Hits.
The latest, Konnichiwa, which came out in 2016 after being off the radar for sometime,
won the Mercury Prize
and includes Shutdown, an anthem that samples Drake enjoying himself in a Las Vegas club.
This track alone has almost 100 million streams,
It is playing everywhere but it is danced to in the streets.
Now, Skepta’s focus is on collaborations:
with his bro A$AP Rocky (Praise The Lord and Ghost Ride),
joining forces with Dizzee Rascal, another pioneer, on Money Right,
with the rising star Stefflon Don on Ding-A-Ling,
and with the Nigerian Wizkid on Energy, one of the tracks of last summer.
Loud and clear:
Skepta has done it all in grime.
From DIY he has made it here.
And he wants more.
After enjoying great success two years running at Primavera Sound
(in 2017 he closed one of the main stages; in 2018 he made a surprise appearance),
now, at last, it is Madrid’s turn.
Thursday 29th November, Joy Eslava,
tickets on sale now at the price of 22 € on Redtkt and Ticketmaster.
Madrid, get ready for Skepta.
