In the Dominican Republic, a "tiguere" is someone who gets by on their own. That's where Melissa found the stage name that best defined her: La Tiguerita doesn't ask for anything. As she says in No Face No Case: "I have earned what I have / I have cried for what I have.'" Her growing reputation is built song by song, on rap, dembow and reggaeton, depending on where the rhythm goes and what she does with her voice, which is always honest and forever strong.
