"Answers" (Southern Music Dist., 2003)
Unclassifiable? Indefinable? How to describe a band like Ui, which started at the beginning of the nineties, just as post-rock was starting to make it mark, and imposed their personality with their mixture of funk, dub and electronic music and by combining instruments like the bass with less common instruments like the banjo or the tuba? Things don’t get any clearer when it is mentioned that the band Sasha Free-Jones, Clem Waldmann and Wilbo Wright have been collaborating with Techno Animal and Luke Vibert, recording an Ep with Stereolab and making records which like “Lifelike” and “Answers”, are an enigma supported by rhythm and the extremely powerful bass lines. Perhaps their presence at the San Miguel Primavera Sound will be the opportunity to permanently clear up any doubts.
