This does not answer the question will there be Cider ?

I'm a big cider fan and there was no cider last year. The only cider you see in Barca is Magners in some bars.

CRAIGthePICT & Joel are going to be friends ! I'm also a big Cider fan.

I always look forward to the cider at ATP not the Gaymers nonsense but the real stuff they sell near the main stage. I get some Black Rat sent up from Wales to Scotland now and then. From supermarket, the 2 Franch Ciders Sainsburies sell are very good. Theres even a Scottish cider called Thistley Cross aged in a whiskey cask which is good.

Here is the problem. What cider to serve? French cidre? Magners Irish cider? Some decent British stuff like Burrows hill? Nothing will keep everyone happy. The other part of this is the festival is being sponsored by a beer company. We should be grateful we can get spirits. I've been at stuff in Ireland where if a beer company is involved good luck getting ANYTHING else other than their beer.

I like beer. But its nice to have that cider option for when you get a bit sick of beer. I was hoping it might save me from going mad on the combinados this year  :)

Cider's not really something they drink in this part of the world is it? You're not going to find real ale round here either. I'll happily drink as the locals do while I'm in their country, and look forward to the real ale and cider back home at Green Man

Yep, cider in Spain is not as big as it is up north in Europe. There's a bit of cider culture in northern Spain, where they have 'sidrerías' ('cideries'?) with huge cider barrels with taps and you serve yourself from them. But you can't get bottled cider in pubs in Barcelona.

But there is a wine culture in Spain (correct me if i am wrong), and still no wine is being served at the festival. The menus look delicious and should be great with a glass of wine in the food-areas...

I was just commenting on cider in Spain! I don't know why there's no wine in the festival.

I know... It´s just that, that nobody from the staff had said nothing about this request that was on the table already months ago...

Cider is not a spanish thing as Alrom said.

The wine thing has been rumbling for a few years. The only thing I can think of is that there will be some contractual stuff around wine being served at the bars on the site and this means:

a) No wine can be carried in the main bars

b) By virtue of the agreements in place with the main bars, there is no provision for the setting up of 'wine bars' on the festival site as this would affect the exclusivity of the company (likely a multi-national arm of San Miguel) who operate the bars on site and would mean less income for them. This then impacts on the amount of sponsorship PS receives.

c) If there is no draught cider in Spain and San Miguel have not thought it worth arranging for bottled cider on the site due to low demand (and low margins) then you wont have cider. Its probably as straightforward a decision as that.

This isn't an ATP Festival and so the agreements ATP have for provision of food and drink are not the standard for Prima.

Of course! I don't think anyone expects cider at Primavera and people understand the cultural differences etc. As a Scotsman I never seem to have any trouble finding something to drink! San Miguel is truly crap lager but you can't go wrong with the decent spirit measures so that's the winner for me. Although inivetably last year I still sank a few pints as well.

As a spaniard I would like to say that I am truly sorry for the abismal quality of our beers.

We are too busy being wine snobs to appreciate good beer I guess... Things are changing right now though!

It was actually being in Spain a lot that got me into appreciating wine. Decent Spanish wine seems to be better than French or anywhere else. The best place for beer has to be Germany though, That law they have about strictly only 4 ingredients and no crap in them just works, they always taste spot on.

On another note, listening to Lower Dens at the moment and loving it. Looking forward to that one. Flight gets into El Prat from Glasgow at 1.50pm tomorrow yeeha!
