hello peoples,

I really want to go to the 2011 festival but was just wondering a couple of things. I'm a bit confused with the festival location being split between barcelona and madrid. I assume the main festival is in barcelona from the 26th to the 28th, but do I need to go to Madrid before and after to get the full festival experience? Or could i just stay in barcelona for the whole thing?

Sorry if that makes little sense

thanks in advance. :)

The festival takes place only in Barcelona.

You have probably confused the actual Primavera Sound festival (which takes place in Barcelona in May) to Primavera Club (which is held also in Madrid in November -> right noWW!!). So, just like Moz said, no worries you will be able to enjoy Primavera Sound in 26.-28.5.2011 without having to change citites. :D

thanks so much for the reply, I'm glad to have that clarified.

Also, due to funds I am looking into camping during this festival, I have seen a place that is near mataro and was wondering if this would be suitable to get into and out of barcelona/primavera on a daily basis. It appears to be on the train line which is good, but I am just concerned it will be to far out of the way to get to and from the festival each day.

I tried looking on http://www.renfe.com/ for train times but was unable to find mataro as a station on there.

thanks once again.

You can look for trains from Barcelona to the main villages in Catalonia here:

thanks for your help.

from what I gather I should be able to get to and from mataro at anytime as there seems to be a nightbus every hour through the night. I just hope it's not to much of a mission.

I don't know about the nightbus route to Mataró, but you might study it, if it passes at a walking distance from the forum, it would be great. Timetables are reliable. (www.tmb.cat)

Leaving the Forum to reach some parts of Barcelona using public transport, is a concern sometimes (specially on thursday night).

If the nightbus is an issue, then, for friday and saturday, I would recommend to stay at the "clubber" style sessions, so you could take the first train to Mataró (through the Underground).

Forum -> Clot train station -> 20 mins (if public transport available)
or
Forum -> Pl. Catalunya train station -> 40 mins (with PS night bus)
+
Barcelona -> Mataró -> 40 mins.
+
Mataró -> Camping -> Most likely a loooooong walk.
+
Add 25 mins for transfers and waitings
=
Most of your Primavera spent on buses and trains. Hungry, tired, sleepy.

Maybe Sant Adrià is closer and faster, ¿isn't it?

Commuting to the suburbs in public transportation at 3 am after a whole day at the festival is a pain in the ass. I'll recommend any cheap hostel in the city, if you start looking now you'll find some good deals, and there's always people willing to share a room if you're in a tied budget.

Cheers dude!

Yeah, any hostel is the deal. Just don't choose the official one in "Mare de Deu de Montserrat" Avenue. That hostel is absolutely amazing (believe me), but it's not convenient for public transport from the forum (believe me more).

thanks very much for all the replys. if I could be pointed in the direction of some cheap accessible hostels that would be great. If I do attend it will be with my girlfriend so we will need a double room. The cheapest I have seen is for just under 50 Euros a night, where as If i could camp it would be around 7 Euros a night.

I have seen a couple of other campsites that seem closer to Barcelona than the Mataro one. One is in GAVA near the airport which may be a better option. There is a map and some info on them here:

http://www.barcelona-tourist-guide.com/ ... elona.html

Once again thanks so much. I am from Australia so this will be my first festival in Europe, and desperately want to go. :)

There are lots of hostels in Barcelona. I just remember a nice one close to Apolo venue, Albareda youth hostel. Convenient for wednesday and sunday gigs (Poble Espanyol, new venue for 2011, is not far). But it's around 24€ per person (including breakfast, etc). Typical price in Barcelona, I think.

Believe me, Barcelona is not confortably approached from campings, specially without car, specially by night. Campings in this area are intented for beach and summer holidays. You can try it, but expect getting tired of it (3+2 festival nights).

I wouldn't try without the advice of someone that truly did it before.

By the way, camping Masnou is closer than Mataró, and similar to Gavá. Just study carefully the public transportation (and the walking distances to the camping at night....).

Thanks very much for the info bro.

Yea from what I gather it will be a bit tricky to do the camping/festival thing so I will have to look into some hostels. Just need to assess funds and what not, and hope the festival and accomodation dont sell/book out.

thanks for all the advice once again.

And if you win the lottery meanwhile, you can try the Princess Hotel, a 4 stars next to the festival (Forum). A two minutes walk and you're in your bed, and you share the hotel with lots of artists, specially the big ones. Imagine yourself taking a beer in the bar between Michael Gira and Jarvis Cocker, for example (I'm not joking). 8)

The price... go figure!
