Best one I've ever seen just happens to have been at Primavera: PULP. Been waiting what seems like a lifetime to see them, came all the way to Barcelona for them, and they exceeded my wildest expectations. They were spot-on and Jarvis was full of energy and sleazy charm and the setlist delivered classic after classic. I only wish they had played for longer, especially since it was a while before Battles started on the next stage, but it would have never been enough anyway.
Everything from that laser question intro to the curtain drop was pure genius. Made the anticipation level that much more unbearable.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XP696Kt6ZaoAnd how nuts was that crowd up front? I was worried that the crowd wouldn't sing and jump along like they did at Blur's Glastonbury reunion, but I was way off.
Outside of festivals, any Radiohead show, most notably the second night at the Hollywood Bowl in 2008. Extra special setlist with "Talk Show Host", "True Love Waits", "Planet Telex", "Go Slowly", "Fake Plastic Trees", and a one-off cover of Neil Young's "Tell Me Why".
Totally agree, it was just so exciting and brilliant! I also saw them afterwards in Paredes de Coura 2011 and it was also great, great stuff. They changed the line-up quite a bit, played more of the early which I love so it was both unexpected and very rewarding for me!
This year I liked very much The Cure, Radiohead and Suede (all of which I've never seen before) in terms of classics, and also Beach House, The Kills and Destroyer (great gig in a cozy venue in Lisbon). Olivia Tremor Control and Jeff Mangum in Porto were great, too, if not completly my cup of tea. A lot of love in the house that night!
