Sorry, it was 1993. (7/31/1993 Geel B Geel House Rock Festival)

Great show, I was 17 and stood on the front row. Rory didn't look healthy and we was visibly suffering from his failing liver.

But he is still the best guitarist ever, imho.

Journalist: "How does it feel to be the world's best guitarist, mr. Hendrix?"
Jimi Hendrix: "I don't know, ask Rory Gallagher"

As far as I know he played until 1995 when his liver stopped working.

Rory Gallagher was born in co. Donegal but raised in Cork. Some kilometres south of the city (that's hours in irish standards ;)) there's a lovely town called Clonakilty where you can find probably one of the best pubs in Ireland: De Barras (that's like one of the best pubs in the world, easily). The first member of the Jimi Hendrix Experience, Noel Redding, ended his days in the neighboor village of Ardfield, drinking and playing with friends in this pub.

Funnily enough the first real gig I went to was Rory Gallagher, but in Bristol in 1978. I also had a seat in the front row, and was delighted when he lent forward to shake hands with us at the end of his set. Sheer joy

Actually it wasn't strictly speaking my first gig; that was Bob Dylan at Blackbushe aerodrome a few months earlier, but that wasn't a gig in the same sense. I could barely see him let alone shake his hand

Rory Gallagher was great - I remember working in a second hand record shop at home on Saturdays when I was about 14 and listening to Taste then listening to Calling Card which is still my favourite Rory solo lp.

Also major shout up for Thin Lizzy, who I never saw but always LOVED seeing Phil Lynott on tv when I was a kid with those dual guitars backing him up! They were soooo good!Robertson and Gorham having it large while Phil brooded and looked cool at the front. Proper rocker!

Nick Cave is a great live-performer and when it comes to the best concerts I think that the gigs with NC and the Bad Seeds just after the release of Your Funeral My Trial, with Blixa Bargeld and Cid Congo Powers in the band, really must be the best ever.

Among PS concerts I think Portishead was great, but I also liked Matt Elliott´s performances solo as well as with his band. I also liked David Thomas Broughton in the auditori as I was really taken by surprise that one man alone could do what he did.

Best of 2012 so far:
Pulp
St. Vincent
Asobi Seksu
Little Dragon
Godspeed You! Black Emperor

If only we could get blessed with those last four on next year's lineup... :(

I figure I should do a top 10 of all-time list, too. That will take some thought.

Sigur Ros when they supported Godspeed You Black Emperor in 2000. The audience were stunned.

The Boredoms playing Bodrum 9 at Matt Groening's All Tomorrow's Parties in 2010.

The Rapture playing a tiny tent at the long gone Oxegen festival in Ireland in 2003.

Both times I saw PJ Harvey play in Dublin's Olympia Theatre, for the Uh-Huh Her and White Chalk tours.

And of course when I finally got to see Tom Waits play in 2008. It was worth the €120.

Best one I've ever seen just happens to have been at Primavera: PULP. Been waiting what seems like a lifetime to see them, came all the way to Barcelona for them, and they exceeded my wildest expectations. They were spot-on and Jarvis was full of energy and sleazy charm and the setlist delivered classic after classic. I only wish they had played for longer, especially since it was a while before Battles started on the next stage, but it would have never been enough anyway.

Everything from that laser question intro to the curtain drop was pure genius. Made the anticipation level that much more unbearable.

And how nuts was that crowd up front? I was worried that the crowd wouldn't sing and jump along like they did at Blur's Glastonbury reunion, but I was way off.

Outside of festivals, any Radiohead show, most notably the second night at the Hollywood Bowl in 2008. Extra special setlist with "Talk Show Host", "True Love Waits", "Planet Telex", "Go Slowly", "Fake Plastic Trees", and a one-off cover of Neil Young's "Tell Me Why".

Totally agree, it was just so exciting and brilliant! I also saw them afterwards in Paredes de Coura 2011 and it was also great, great stuff. They changed the line-up quite a bit, played more of the early which I love so it was both unexpected and very rewarding for me!

This year I liked very much The Cure, Radiohead and Suede (all of which I've never seen before) in terms of classics, and also Beach House, The Kills and Destroyer (great gig in a cozy venue in Lisbon). Olivia Tremor Control and Jeff Mangum in Porto were great, too, if not completly my cup of tea. A lot of love in the house that night!

One of the most consistently amazing live acts is St. Vincent. Seen her four times and each was better than the last. How has she never played?
